Under the Lens

First look under the lens

Lumen is about the scale you can only see by getting far too close. A dewdrop holding an entire sunrise upside down. The inside of an amethyst geode. Frost building crystal architecture on a window overnight. The scales on a Morpho wing, which are not blue at all — they are structured, and the blue is a trick of physics. Enlarged to print size, these stop being nature photographs and start being abstracts. That is the appeal: they suit a calm modern room without needing to announce a subject, and they reward standing close. They work beautifully as a set of three in the same tonal family — cool, quiet, and easy to live beside. Everything is printed to order. Three below: a dewdrop at sunrise, a geode, and a butterfly wing. The world, up close.
